Natasha Lester in conversation

Wednesday 5th April @ 6.30pm

It is always such a pleasure to have the lovely Natasha Lester as a guest in our Literary Lounge series, so we are delighted to announce that she will be appearing in the store to talk about her new book, Her Mother's Secret. Starting off in England in 1918, this is the story of Leonora who is secretly concocting cosmetics in her father's chemist shop, selling to army nurses, such as Joan, her adventurous Australian friend. When the joy of Armistice Day is overshadowed by the arrival of the Spanish flu which claims her beloved father, Leonora decides to sail to New York, determined to set up her own cosmetics company, even though it is still considered scandalous for women to wear make-up.

Her Mother's Secret is about a brave young woman who is chasing her dream in the face of society's disapproval. Natasha's excellent research, clever plot twists, and captivating characters guarantee this as another book to be devoured in a short time. Tickets are $8.50 including wine-tasting and nibbles. To purchase your ticket, call us on 6142 7996, email hello@beaufortstreetbooks.com.au or book online here:

Information about our events

Every month Beaufort Street Books hosts Literary Lounge author evenings.  More often than not, it is one of our fantastic local authors with the format being as 'in conversation' style. Come in and book your place today or register for our newsletter to ensure you don’t miss out.

Apart from in conversation style events, we have also hold the odd cooking demonstrations in store. We have had evenings where we made pizza dough, curries, a thermomix & wholefood demo, and even fusili pasta one night!! We have even held special occasion events fully catered for by the wonderful team at Ryan John Catering with Maggie Beer, Stephanie Alexander, and Bill Granger.  Whilst we love holding these events in-store, sometimes we are just not big enough and we need someowhere bigger. For example

  • Tim Winton, Eyrie held at Perth College, Mt Lawley.
  • Ricky Ponting, At the Close of Play held at Mt. Lawley-Inglewood Cricket Club.
  • Jennifer Saunders, Bonkers: My Life in Laughs held at The Octagon Theatre, UWA.

With so many different types of events, the prices will vary but without fail, always sell through quickly and more often than not, sell out.  We understand that things sometimes come up preventing you from attending after having paid for your ticket.  If you advise us 5 days prior to the event, we can refund your money or transfer it to another event.  However, if within 24hours of the event, we can only refund your money if we have been able to get someone to take your place.  If there are any variations from these, we will advise within the event details in email and on our website.
