Born in 1862, Austrian painter Gustav Klimt became known for the highly decorative style and erotic nature of his works, which were seen as a rebellion against the traditional academic art of his time. Klimt’s landscape paintings bring to light a lesser known aspect of the artist’s oeuvre, proving that his mastery extends beyond renowned portraits of Viennese society to evocative depictions of nature. Klimt experimented with composition and style in his landscapes, and many of these are considered his most exquisite works, made even more precious by their very scarcity.
